This 3-day seminar provides know-how on local market development and technologies for automatic biomass heating systems.
The market transformation towards modern, high-efficiency biomass heating presents enormous opportunities for local economic development, for decreasing energy costs and for climate and environment protection.
The 3-day international training seminar will provide information and know-how on local market development and technologies for automatic biomass heating, based on the experience in Austria. It will focus on small- and mid-scale projects, fuelled by wood pellets and wood chips, covering solutions for homes, smaller commercial/public buildings and district heating grids (up to a few hundred kW).
The seminar will offer interactive learning in an international group, educational site-visits and presentations by experts in biomass technologies, market development and environment.
The international training seminar is organised by the Energy Academy of the O.Ö. Energiesparverband, the energy agency of the region Upper Austria. Upper Austria is a success story in high-efficiency biomass heating: more than 34 % of the heat demand are covered by clean, automatic biomass heating. Green heating has created more than 500 new jobs in Upper Austria in recent years. The O.Ö. Energiesparverband is the organiser of the European Pellet Conference, the largest annual event on wood pellets in the world.

- Experts of the O.Ö. Energiesparverband: The O.Ö. Energiesparverband as the state agency for renewable energy plays a crucial role in the biomass heating market development, for example by managing funding programmes and by carrying out promotional campaigns and training programmes.
- Experts of Bioenergy 2020+: Bioenergy 2020+ is a world-wide leading research body in the field of energetic use of solid biomass and is specialised in small scale combustion appliances. A main activity is the development of innovative solutions for biomass heating appliances in cooperation with European equipment manufacturers.

This fee includes the training sessions, the seminar documentation, the site-visits, coffee breaks/meals.
Accommodation in nearby hotels in Linz is about 80-100 Euro/night (including
breakfast and taxes) and is not included in the seminar fee.

Linz
Linz is the third-largest city of Austria and capital of the region of Upper Austria (Oberösterreich). It is located in the north of Austria, approximately
30 km south of the Czech border, on both sides of the river Danube.
The city’s population is around 200,000. As the “Cultural Capital of Europe“

Upper Austria
Upper Austria is one of the nine federal regions of Austria. It has a population of 1.4 million. Already since the mid-90ies, the region has given
political priority to energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
Renewable energy sources currently cover 34 % of the total primary energy
demand, 15 % of which is biomass, 15% hydro power, and 4 % are solar
and other renewable energy sources. By 2030, the region has set itself the
target to cover 100 % of its electricity and space heat demand from
renewable energy sources. The region has a leading position in biomass
heating: not only are more than 25% of all modern biomass boilers installed
in the European Union manufactured in the region, but it has one of the
highest densities of small-scale automatic heating systems in the world.
O.Ö. Energiesparverband
The O.Ö. Energiesparverband is the energy agency of Upper Austria, it supports the regional government in the development and implementation of regional energy programmes. These include for example energy certification and rating of buildings, energy advice services to households, businesses and public bodies or managing state funding programmes.
The O.Ö. Energiesparverband also runs the “Energy Academy“ which holds more than 40 training courses on energy efficiency and renewable energy
sources annually.
Ökoenergie-Cluster
The O.Ö. Energiesparverband also manages the “Ökoenergie-Cluster“, the
network of renewable energy and energy efficiency companies in Upper Austria. Currently, 160 companies and institutions are partners of the network, employing more than 7,300 persons and achieving a turnover of
more than 1.8 billion Euro /2.3 billion US $ annually. These companies are
active in all fields of sustainable energy production and use, special areas of
excellence are automatic biomass heating, solar thermal and high-efficiency
buildings. In recent years these companies have seen a strong growth and have created more than 500 new jobs in the region. More than 25% of all biomass boilers sold in the EU are manufactured by Upper Austria´s boiler industry, and pellet heating systems have become a standard solution.
